Although nicknamed Oore to O common and Agbo Jesu due to her first songs; Tope Alabi’s original full name is Patricia Temitope Alabi. She was born on 27th October, 1970 as the only daughter amongst 3 children to Pa Joseph Akinyele and Madam Agnes Kehinde. Tope hails from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State, and she grew up in an environment with strict discipline from her mother.
Tope obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) in 1986. She had her secondary or high school in Oba Akinyele Memorial High School after which she proceeded to the Polytechnic Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in 1990.
Tope Alabi Early Career
Before venturing into music full time, Tope Alabi had Interest in being a movie actress. While in secondary school, she joined a theatre group. She also joined the Jesters International group in 1983 and was acting with Papilolo and Aderupoko. She also worked with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan between 1990 & 1991. Later, she worked with Centre-spread Advertising Limited, Lagos in 1991 – 1992.
In 1994, Tope Alabi went back to the movie industry and joined Alade Aromire Theatre group. This was where her musical creativity was unearthed. Tope discovered her talent in singing and making soundtracks for movie productions while she worked with the Theatre group.
Tope Alabi Music Career
In 2000, Tope Alabi released the album that brought her into the limelight titled Oore ti O Common (uncommon favor). This song also gave her the nickname Oore ti O Common and Agbo Jesu. Prior to that, she had released two albums – Ikoko Dudu and Baba Iwo la k’epe.
So far, Tope has released eleven albums. In recent times, Tope Alabi has made soundtracks with popular songwriter and photographer TY Bello. For instance, her latest album The Spirit of Light, 2019 was done in conjunction with TY Bello. One of the tracks, Logan ti o de went viral within a few hours of release.

Tope is married to Soji Alabi who is also her manager and producer. It was her husband, Soji Alabi who actually led her to Christ after he perceived God wanted to use her in the music industry.
