It can be really frustrating when you need your AC functioning properly in the heat of the day, only to find out that your AC is blowing hot air or not working at all thereby making you feel hotter. A common complaint Mercedes Benz car owners have is surrounding issues that have to do with the air conditioning system. Questions like how do I resolve this goes through your mind? A simple solution is to do a Mercedes Benz AC reset.
WHAT IS A MERCEDES BENZ AC RESET
Usually, all Mercedes Benz vehicles have a series of service lights that serve as indicators of when something is wrong with one or more internal components of the vehicle. Whenever something isn’t right with the AC system on your car, you will often notice the AC service lights lit up on the dashboard of your car.
Simply put, a Mercedes Benz AC reset means restarting your Mercedes’ air conditioning system to see if it’s able to clear up any issues that you might be having with it. It is sometimes called a Mercedes climate control reset.
WHEN TO DO A MERCEDES BENZ AC RESET
Mercedes Benz AC reset is not a routine form of maintenance. Meaning, unless the need demands it, you don’t necessarily have to do an AC reset. In fact, some might have been using their Mercedes-Benz cars for years before ever having a need to reset the AC.
Below are conditions when you need a Mercedes Benz AC to reset;
- When your AC is blowing hot air after you just recharged the coolant.
- When the AC service lights lit up on the dashboard of your car.
- When the AC system is involved in any issue affects the smooth functioning of your car.
HOW TO DO A MERCEDES BENZ AC RESET
Certain drivers freak out when they hear about a Mercedes Benz reset because they imagine having to get their hands dirty and think it’s a difficult task. But on the contrary, it’s a simple process. Follow these three simple steps to rest the AC of your car;
STEP ONE: INSERT YOUR KEY INTO THE IGNITION BUTTON
The first step is to insert your key into its rightful slot in the car. Turn the ignition cylinder to position ‘2’. This is the highest point that the cylinder can go without activating the engine. Starting the car will prevent you from doing an effective Mercedes Benz AC reset
STEP TWO: PRESS THE RECIRCULATRmE AIR AND DEFROST AIR BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY
Moving further, press and hold the recirculate air button and the defrost air button at the same time. The defrost button has three lines going through it, while the recirculated air button has a picture of a car with a curved line through it. You will have to hold down these two buttons for about 5-10 seconds, or rather until the LED lights of both buttons start flashing. The lights will start flashing to let you know you have held the bottoms long enough.
STEP THREE: WAIT
Normally, the LED lights won’t keep flashing for too long. Wait for 45 to 60 seconds for the LED lights to stop flashing. Then turn off the car.
After this, wait for another 60 seconds, before you switch on the Engine of the car to allow the AC reset to reach completion. Your AC should be back and running normally.
WHAT IF MY AC DOESN’T WORK PROPERLY AFTER AN AC RESET?
It’s not strange if an AC reset does not bring your AC running smoothly again. When this happens, it is often an indicator that the problem is deeper than you think. The best thing is to take it to your mechanic for repair.
Anytime it appears your AC isn’t blowing properly, the first best thing to do is to perform a Mercedes Benz AC reset following the steps listed above. It wouldn’t hurt to try as the other options you have is either to keep driving your car in hot air or immediately face paying the costly bills for AC repairs. You will count yourself lucky if after following the simple steps above, your AC starts working back normally.
