Mr Olukayode Popoola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, announced on Sunday a six-day traffic diversion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, beginning Monday, to expedite construction work.
According to a statement from Popoola, the diversion will allow Julius Berger, the contractor in charge of section one of the project, to pour asphalt between Arepo and Warewa, a distance of one and a half kilometres.
He explained that there is a need to prepare the ground surrounding the Punch area, which is why the traffic detour is necessary to expedite construction work.
Popoola went on to say that the traffic would be diverted onto the Lagos-bound carriageway.
He pleaded for road users’ patience, stating that enough plans had been made for traffic regulatory bodies to manage the work zone in order to avoid bottlenecks.

“The Federal Government is desirous of completing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project by next year, so there is need to increase the tempo of activities on the road.
“Julius Berger will asphalt between Arepo and Warewa, therefore there is going to be a diversion of traffic for six days. “The public should please bear with the Federal Government,” he said.
