5 prominent Nigerian artists who have never won a Grammy

In music and entertainment, there are awards and recognition titles that endorse a musician, actor worldwide.

The Nigerian music industry has also produced singers who have bagged many awards, especially the Grammy Awards.

Artists like Wizkid, Burnaboy have been recipients of this prestigious award.

However, there are legendary singers in Nigeria who prepared the path for our favorite Afrobeat singers to enter the global scene.

These singers are famous and renowned for their excellent delivery of great music, but, surprisingly, their work in the industry has not yet earned them a Grammy award barge.

Let’s look at five Nigerian singers who have heavily influenced music in Africa and are famous but never got nominated or won a Grammy award.

Innocent Idibia is a legendary Nigerian singer who came into the limelight with his famous sound “African Queen.”

His songs redefined Afropop in Nigeria.

A producer and songwriter, 2baba is also one of the biggest and successful artists in the Nigerian music industry.

The father of five earned his spot in the industry with hit singles like True Love, Enter the Place, Mr. Endowed, Amaka. 2 Face is a legend and a role model to many, but he has never won a Grammy Award.

One of Nigeria’s most prominent musicians, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, aka D’banj, has made a name for himself.

With songs like ” Fall in love,” Oliver Twist, and others, he has inscribed his name on the sands of time.

The co-owner of defunct Mo’ Hits Records record label reached an all-time high when he deployed plans to sign a young artist under himself with another big star Don Jazzy.

Dbanj is a successful musician who has recorded many wins; he featured Kanye West on his song “Oliver Twist” and recorded huge successes. Yet, till today the Koko master has not won any Grammy award.

Recognized as the pioneer of excellence and the redefined Nigeria music industry Don Jazzy has seen big stars like Ayra Starr, Rema rise under his watch.

The iconic CEO of Mavin Records, Michael Collins Ajereh, aka Don Jazzy, has many hit songs such as Dorubucci, Janta Manta, Looku Looku.

A successful businessman and musician, Don Jazzy has won several awards, but the Grammys is not one of them.

David Adedeji Adeleke, aka Davido, is Nigeria’s big boy and leader of the 30 Billion gang group.

Known for his hit songs such as Dami Duro, Aye, Fall, Jowo, Fem, Assurance, etc.

Davido has won numerous awards, including the prestigious BET International music award.

In November 2019, he released the single “Blow My Mind,” featuring famous American singer Chris Brown.

Cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2019. Davido is the second most followed African on social media.


M.I Abaga

Africa’s most decorated hip hop rapper M.I Abaga is a talented creative.

He is among the pioneers of Nigerian Hip-hop music. In 2006 M.I debuted with Crowd Mentality and it became M.I’s first popular music.

The rapper became Chocolatecity CEO in 2015 and the tenure ended in 2019.

M.I is more than a rapper. With Nigerian 4 successful studio albums 6 E.Ps throughout his career, M.I has won numerous awards:  Headies 2015

Best Rap Album 2009 –Hip Hop world Awards and the prestigious BET Awards in 2010.

However, M.I has never been nominated or won a Grammy award
